This week's Fab*Bride brought creativity to her special day in a big way! Her name is Ellen and let's just say that the details of her wedding were adorably eclectic and came together to create a significant impact! She had lots to say about her wedding and her planning process, so let's dive right in! Why was she nominated? Well, her photographers over at Virginia-based Kellan Studios, Kelly and Ryan, stated that...
"Ellen is a bride who is reeling with ideas. She is an artist and art teacher by trade. Her fall wedding was beautiful, personal and creative. She incorporated lots of unique details into her wedding theme starting with her unconventional fall color scheme of ochre, fuchsia, brown and gray. She was an avid shopper on the best crafting market on the web; Etsy. All the guy’s ties, the girl’s headpieces and other goodies were purchased there. She is a bride of grace, poise, vulnerability and humor. This was our fourth session with her as we shot her engagement, bridal, a vintage bridal session and finally her wedding. She is truly a classic beauty with flawless skin and soulful eyes. Ellen was deliberate and well thought out in her details stretching her budget in creative ways. We loved the comfort, color and ease of her wedding day."
We cannot agree more! Let's meet our Fab*Bride Ellen!
What was the inspiration or concept behind your wedding? How did you decide that PINK was the HUE for YOU? I knew I wanted an "unconventional" theme and palette for my wedding. I was tired of seeing the same ole' same ole' with decorations and colors. I am a high school Art teacher and artist (painter) so needless to say I love color and all things imaginative and "out-of-the-box"! I didn't want the typical "vase of flowers" centerpiece or "matchy-matchy" attire for the bridal party. I wanted all aspects of the event to be personal to me and my husband [and for] people to walk in the room and say "this is totally Ellen and Erik"! I think all weddings should scream details of the couple! Our menu was an assortment of our most favorite, basic foods, as well as the beverage menu. The beer was from one of our favorite restaurants in Lynchburg that brew their own beer. The cake was 6 tiers of our most favorite flavors as well. The grooms cake was a pyramid of Krispy Kreme donuts (Erik's most favorite food ever) with a signed baseball from the bridal party, as the topper (Erik was a college player and LOVES the game). I personalized the reception space with my own artwork, our engagement pictures and bridal portraits (which were very "unconventional" as well). I also used chalkboards to display menus, cake flavors, favor descriptions, etc. All chalkboards were designed and drawn by a former student of mine who I taught for four years. She is now a studio arts major! YAY! Growing up I was never really a "pink" kinda girl until I started wedding planning! I didn't want the pink/green combo that has been over-done and I didn't want to stick to just one color. I choose the mustard-ish yellow color as I wanted something a little more warm for my fall wedding. In doing so, I then went with two more colors, chocolate brown and charcoal gray. My bridesmaids were told to "just pick a chocolate brown dress and charcoal gray shoes". My #1 priority for my girls was to have them most comfortable for the day and for them to be able to use their dresses and shoes again! They were even allowed to use a dress or shoes they had already owned! I didn't want our event to be formal and "stiff". I simply wanted all who were there to be comfortable and to have a blast! The only people in suits were my dad and Erik. Groomsmen wore dress pants, a shirt and tie and HOT PINK SOCKS!!!!!
The moment I saw your wedding photos, I instantly felt the love and playfulness between you and Erik. You two look care-free and most certainly in love. What does he inspire in you? Erik has inspired me since day one. He inspires me to be ME! He will jokingly say..."no one else would put up with you and your crazy ideas!" [It's] so true though! We are the perfect balance as I am the more carefree one and he is grounded, keeping my toes on the ground and bringing me back to reality when needed. He is incredibly smart, wise, and continually gives to all of those around him. I have always been one to bottle up emotion and feelings and he is the total opposite. I have learned from him just how important it is to let those around you know just how you feel. He also inspires me to keep learning. There's an endless supply of knowledge and new things to be learned. His job requires him to constantly be learning and he thrives within that environment! Seeing him flourish in this way is contagious!
