Allison & family traveled to Miami for Spring Break. Gosh, how CUTE is Kaity's dog? You gotta see Antoinette's hair - it's pretty-purple perfection. Have a very happy holiday weekend, lovelies.
Today, we're chatting with Natalie from SimplyBridal, a online wedding gown retailer. She has some insight to share on bridal fashion, which is always a hot topic at our office!
How did SimplyBridal get its start?
After watching an episode of Say Yes to the Dress, our founder, Lawrence Ng, realized how important the dress was to the bride and how the bride had to stretch beyond her budget to buy the dress she wanted. This was not right. He decided to start his own bridal company because he felt that women should be able to have not only the dress but also the wedding of their dreams at an accessible price. Less than two years later, SimplyBridal now has a showroom in Los Angeles, have over four hundred wedding dresses, and ships to twenty-five countries.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is the people! Since we're start-up, a bridal company, and an e-commerce company, we have a very unique blend of the fashion, tech, and business-savvy people. The bridal industry as a whole has also been incredibly nice and filled with generous, creative people.
What is your favorite wedding dress trend of the moment?
I love lace overlays! Lace has a reputation of being old and stuffy; I used to think of lace doilies or tablecloths, but lace overlays seemed embody sensuality and femininity.
What is one piece of advice you would like to share with brides?
I actually have a ton of advice for brides -- I'm a huge proponent of emergency kits --, but after much thought I think that it's always important to remember that the wedding is the wonderful beginning of the rest of your life.
Tell us your prediction for bridal gown fashion this year…
There were some stunning gowns at the Oscars last month and I'm pretty sure many brides will be choosing gowns with interesting textures and thought through details. Naomi Watts and Jennifer Lawrence wore two of my favorite gowns. Although I personally adore soft and pretty details like lace :), I think many brides will react against the current romantic trend and those sexy thigh slits (Monique Lhuillier and Maggie Sottero, I'm looking at you) and go for dresses not only look but also feel amazing.
If you didn't know, today is Waffle Day! And since we love to celebrate all things food, we spent the morning creating yummy + delightful creations at our very own waffle bar. The setup is a cinch - all you need is a waffle maker, some batter (we used the super easy just add water kind), and your preferred toppings. We made sure to include syrup, whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries. Having never actually made waffles before myself, I recruited Lucy to help mix up the batter and get everything ready. As I mentioned, we used a super easy "just add water" waffle mix and now I can't wait to start making waffles more often! Kristie and Kaity were the first to try our freshly made (and delicious) waffles. Here they are topping their breakfast! Our waffles turned out fantastic! Celebrating Waffle Day was such a great start to the week and I can't wait to see what we'll be celebrating next.
Will you be making waffles to celebrate? What's your must-have waffle topping?

This week, our very own CEO, founder, and fearless leader, Allison spoke at Tory Johnson's Spark & Hustle here in Tampa.
Allison spoke to the group on the Muscle Marketing panel alongside fellow Tampa businesswoman Nique Mealey. They shared their stories of starting their own businesses from scratch, as well as how they've continued to be creative in the ways they grow their companies.
We're not sure if you've heard, but Allison started IC from her apartment's spare bedroom back in 1999 with zero startup capital and only a laptop bought on credit. She's one inspiring entrepreneur! We're lucky to get to learn from her everyday.
Spark & Hustle is a conference run by Tory Johnson, of GMA (and so many other credits). It's on a tour of the US to inspire women who are starting their own businesses!
