In the spirit of the season, we decided to try our luck at ice skating. The whole IC team spent part of our afternoon at a local ice skating arena and had a blast - after we got our skates, we were doing laps around the ice trying new tricks or just generally trying to stay upright. Most of us haven’t been skating since we were little, so it took a while to get used to feeling more comfortable again.
Most of us started the skating experience by clutching the wall and sliding along until we could be sure of our balance. Lucy, one of our Client Relations Coordinators, got some valuable skating advice after she fell: “Keep your arms out and don’t try to skate backwards.” After that, I must say, Lucy did much better.
Kyle, our web designer, and Kristie, our newest Client Relations Coordinator, were a different story. Kristie grew up around hockey players and took lessons as a child so she was right at home; and Kyle used to play hockey – he actually brought his own skates. No intimidation or anything…
These two raced around the ice lapping everyone and trying to come up with new ‘tricks’. Kristie also raced around the ice in 25.4 seconds – now that is impressive!
Regardless of our skill level, everyone had a great time and is looking forward to going again next year. What are your favorite activities to do around the holiday season? We definitely recommend an ice skating party!
