I am happily back with another Fab*Bride to add to our collection! This week, our latest addition is our very own Kaity who married her college sweetheart this past May. Some things to know about Kaity: she's got wit, she's our social media guru, and she is obsessed with all things pertaining to the University of Florida Gators. As a fellow Gator alum, I have a soft spot in my heart for Gainesville too, so I'm truly excited to bring you Kaity and Bobby's Gator Wedding. Yes, it's orange & blue and this Fab*Bride kicked it up with the perfect amount of elegance, fun, and Tim Tebow. With the help of Basia Mille Photography, I bring you Kaity's Florida Wedding!
What was the driving inspiration or concept behind your wedding? My husband and I are both Gator fans. No – we’re Gator fanatics. We are absolutely obsessed with the University of Florida. We knew from day 1 that we would get married on campus and planned everything (and I mean everything) around that fact. Our color scheme was orange and blue (the school’s colors) and we made sure to incorporate UF into all the details. Even our table “numbers” were places on campus!
Tell us about your search for the perfect wedding dress. I was dreading it, oddly enough. I had always been that girl that loved to shop and try on clothes (I may or may not have tried on prom dresses when I wasn’t even going…). But, the pressure of finding “the dress of a lifetime” was really getting to me. I went to David’s Bridal with my mom, since I didn’t feel that there would be too much pressure in that store. I narrowed it down to three “finalists” and then went back the next week with my maid of honor to pick out her dress. While I was there, I showed her my three picks – and then my consultant had me try on another one she thought I might like. I LOVED it and bought it right then and there…without my mom! I did that early on (we’re talking almost a year before the wedding) and then spent a long time picking a reception dress. Getting married in Florida in May was going to be HOT – so I needed a second, shorter dress for the end of the reception and the after party. I found a great dress, and because my bridal gown was about half what I had budgeted, I didn’t feel guilty buying another dress!
How did you go about accessorizing to finalize your look? My accessories were actually really easy to put together. I knew I wanted to go the simple rout and my now-husband had just bought me a set of pearl earrings and a necklace for Christmas – so that was it! I had a pearl clutch bag that was my great aunt’s and some beautiful (yet painful) shoes from Zappos.
If you could label one song as the theme to your wedding, what would it be? Completely by accident, the theme song for the weekend was “P.Y.T.” by Michael Jackson! We just kept singing it and having a blast. It is such a fun song.
How did your wedding invitations tie into your overall wedding concept? They were a huge part of the day! Both of our families are sort of outside the crazy Florida Gators bubble. We wanted them to know right away what they were getting into! We wanted to make sure our invites were very orange and blue and very fun. I think we achieved that! (Kaity used Invitation Consultant's Joyful Banner as the inspiration for her wedding invitation and coordinating items).
If Hollywood made a movie about your life as a bride-to-be to now-bride, which starlet would you want to play you in the lead role? This is a hard question to answer, because I’m getting so hung up on who looks like me… But, if I’m looking for someone who can capture my attitude about wedding planning, I’d have to go with Ellen Page. I was practically an anti-bride. My response to my florist when she asked what I wanted was “I don’t know…flowers?”. I didn’t sweat the small stuff – and maybe I should have? – but I just didn’t want to let a party control my life for 13 months!
Describe a Fab*Bride (you!) in three words. Low Key. Happy. Gator.
Something borrowed? My pearl clutch bag.
Something blue? My shoes and my garter.
Something old? My bag – again!
Something new? My dress.
Something beautiful? Me! I’m allowed to say that about my wedding day, right?
Something yummy? The North Carolina-style barbeque that our caterer created for us. It tasted like the real thing.
Something touching? The look on my husband’s face when he saw me for the first time.
Something funny? Tim Tebow’s appearance at our wedding.
