We wanted to get to know Ilse a little more - so this week, she's the topic of our "Five Fab Questions! Here is what she had to say:
1. How did you get your start in the wedding industry?
I studied in college Hotel and Restaurant Administration. I went to Spain to do my postgraduate degree on Hotel and Restaurant Direction. While doing my internship in Spain, I started to work at the Boutique Hotel Valencia Golf & Spa in the wedding department. I fell in love with the details - and the pressure - behind the planning and the coordination. So I came back to my hometown of Cancún and wanted to start a wedding-related business. I acquired a Butterfly release franchise and started the first company in Cancún & the Riviera Maya that services weddings and other special events. I had no idea that this would be an amazing snowball that would end in the most successful career I´ve had so far: developing my own venue and becoming a destination wedding expert for the Riviera Maya & Cancún area.
2. What’s your favorite part of your job? And the hardest part of your job?
I love to exceed my couples expectations . When I deliver exactly what they dreamed about and more, it is amazing. The faces of family and friends, as they tell me "Thank you" is really what I love the most about my job. Since I was little, my dream wedding has always been on the beach. And now I get to live my dream everytime one of my couples gets married!
The hardest part about the job is probably making clients understand wedding planners and clients MUST have empathy. People in other jobs may say "I don´t have to like my client, they don´t have to like me as long as the job is done." Well in wedding planning, they have to like you and you have to like them. From my point of view, it's like shopping for shoes, you may love them but once you try them on, if it hurts when you walk it will hurt all day long.
The craziest, but coolest, thing I have seen on one of my weddings is an amazing cake topper done by a local artist in Cancún. The bride and groom made a small version of themselves and place it on the top of their very eco-green decorated cake. Everyone took pictures of the amazing surprise. You don´t see a cake topper like this one everyday! The bride was holding a camera because she is a professional photographer and the groom was holding a XX beer, because ... well we get the point! Little details like this are the ones that make a difference, the more you personalize your wedding the cooler it turns out to be.
It is definitely JARS (square vases and bottles), I just love them in every shape and size. For center pieces, for the candy buffet, for candles, as souvenir gifts for guests that come to the wedding. They are just so amazing and when decorated on the right way they can just make your beach wedding have the super classy and elegant touch.
5. If you could do any other job in the world, what would it be?
I would be a professional dancer. I just love dancing. I took classes for almost 18 years and I am a choreographer but I don´t do it professionally, just for fun. I love to be on stage and I love to feel the music and express myself. I would say for me, dancing makes me feel as free as flying.
