We could not be more thrilled with the entries we received for our third annual Design Contest! We received more than 500 designs from all over the country and let me tell you, it was tough for our fabulous judges to pick a winner. But they did - and we love the design!
This year's winning design came to us from a familiar face - Mary Beth Taylor. You may remember her from our Guest Designer Program, and she also won the Design Contest last year! We asked Mary Beth a few questions and here's what she had to say:
What inspired your winning design?
I had this notion of wanting to create something sophisticated and romantic for destination save the dates. When I start concepting, I like to gather inspiration images from all sorts of sources like photography, typography, artifacts, fabrics - it could really be anything visual. Then I distill my concept with the visual inspiration and start designing... sometimes it all comes together.
How does it feel to win again this year?
I was genuinely surprised that I won! With the ability to see other entries - I spotted quite a few designs by others I thought could be winners. Plus you never know what all the judges will gravitate towards as a group.
Tell us about your experience in the Guest Designer Program.
The Guest Designer Program has been great. It's been an unexpected way for me to make a little extra cash while indulging my personal design aesthetics.
What other projects are you working on?
Being a full-time art director and mom to one energetic three year old — I don't always have time for personal creative pursuits. But this past spring I started a fashion blog called practically fabulous (www.practicallyfabulous.com). I love finding inexpensive clothes and accessories that look just as fab as designer pieces and I love bragging about deals I score, ha! This blog is my outlet for talking fashion with all my fun girlfriends I don't get to see on a daily basis. I took a little hiatus from blogging this summer because of time, but all the fall fashion buzz has me blogging again. yay.
We'll definitely be checking out Mary Beth's blog. Who doesn't love a good steal?
Thanks again to Mary Beth and all the designers who submitted entries! This was our most successful contest to date. Stay tuned and we'll be featuring the 2nd and 3rd place winners!
