Meet our newest Fab*Bride: Kerry-Ann! Kerry-Ann and Jason exchanged vows on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at a catholic church in Miami Beach, Florida. Family from around the world traveled to witness their special event that fused Kerry-Ann's Chinese-Jamaican culture with Jason's Filipino background.
Our nomination of Kerry-Ann for Fab*Bride comes from Agnes Lopez Photography, a top wedding photographer from Northeast Florida, whose photographs have been featured in Grace Ormond Wedding Style Magazine, The Knot Magazine, The Bride and Bloom Magazine, Southern Weddings Magazine, Jacksonville Magazine, and on the cover of Jacksonville Luxury Living Magazine. Aside from wedding photography, she also specializes in fashion and editorial photography. When asked why Kerry-Ann was an obvious choice for a Fab*Bride, Agnes was,
"so impressed by Kerry-Ann's ability to plan from afar and pull off such an extraordinary event. The wedding was so beautiful and I loved how they were able to mix their cultures and traditions seamlessly. One of the unique things about her wedding was her beautifully custom designed dress. According to the article in the Jamaica Observer, 'after watching the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, Kerry-Ann fell in love with a Pogah Couture dress worn by reality star Lauren Conrad and immediately tracked down the designer. That done, mother and daughter flew to Los Angeles for a consultation with the designer who agreed to turn the dress into a wedding gown for her special day.' Kerry-Ann and Jason also had a surprised choreographed first dance. They kept it a secret from everyone including me. It was so much fun to photograph their dance and everyone's reactions."
We at Fab*Blog cannot agree more! Kerry-Ann was a perfect candidate of what we consider a Fab*Bride! Not only is she gorgeous (her smile is so contagious, right?), but she has so much confidence! Without further ado, the ten grueling (aka fun!) Fab*Bride questions!
What was the inspiration/concept behind the décor and props for your wedding?
We started out by selecting our favorite colors, Jason's being brown and mine green, and that became the foundation of our decor. Everything else just came together.
Where did you meet your husband? Jason and I met one night in New York. We were both visiting a mutual friend and became friends, and then began dating a few years later.
I absolutely love when culture ties in with a wedding. In what ways did you incorporate family and/or traditional customs? Coming from two different cultures and having both our families present, we wanted to allow both sides to experience each others customs. Therefore we incorporated traditional customs throughout the wedding, beginning with the ceremony which integrated Filipino wedding traditions (the cord, veil and arrhae coin ceremonies) and then at the reception guests were entertained by a live performance of the Chinese lion dance followed by the Filipino money dance. Finally as a token of our appreciation, guests received favors containing traditional Jamaican wedding cake known as "black cake."
What is the most solid piece of advice that you’ve been given about marriage? Love is grand, divorce is a hundred grand! No seriously... Jamaicans always say, "the key to a man's heart is through his belly."
If you could label one song as the theme to your wedding, what would it be? "I Gotta Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas
How did your wedding invitations tie into your overall wedding concept? We actually had two sets of wedding invitations made, traditional Chinese red invitations and then western style invitations which were based on our favorite colors.
If Hollywood made a movie about your wedding, whom would you like to see play you in the lead role? I wouldn't mind Lucy Lu. She's cute and stylish.
I adore your gown! How did you know that your wedding dress was ‘the one?’ I have always been told that the first wedding dress you try on is usually the one! After trying on approximately 30 wedding dresses, that wasn't the case. Luckily I knew I found 'the one' while watching the 2008 MTV VMA's and saw Lauren Conrad wearing a Pogah Couture dress. I contacted the designer Ari Sheuhmelian and he graciously agreed to make the dress into a wedding dress for me and the rest is history!
You had a very unique first dance! Tell us about that experience. What made you decide to do something so clever and fun? Hands down all the credit goes to my husband, he choreographed the first dance! If you know Jason you won't expect anything less. I would come home from work and he would ask 'can you do this move?' We practiced for about a month in our living room. Given the size of NYC apartments, it was like practicing in a sardine can....nonetheless it was a memorable experience!! Not to mention, the surprise on everyone's face was priceless.
Describe a Fab*Bride (you!) in three words. Classy. Stylish. Motivated.
Big thanks to Kerry-Ann for participating and Agnes Lopez for nominating this awesome Fab*Bride!
