Quentin, from Destination Weddings joins us today for his second guest post. Catch up on Quentin's story with his first post.
So we made the decision to have a destination wedding, and the next step is where. Given that I’ve traveled all over the Caribbean I figured that this would be an easy one…but I was wrong. There are a ton of great islands, and each one has someplace that looked like it would make the ideal spot for us. So we started thinking about places we had been before, and started there.
Several years back (before we got engaged), my wife and I vacationed in St. Lucia and stayed at the Windjammer Landing resort. During our stay we both looked up from our beach chairs when we heard what seemed to be the faint music of violins. When we looked out towards the end of the beach we saw a wedding taking place on the secluded point extending into the ocean. It looked incredible, and although neither of us wanted to say it at the time, we both thought it would be a great spot for our wedding.
Fast forward a couple years and back to planning our destination wedding - we both remembered that day and decided that was the spot for us. We had our specialist reserve the wedding date and even sent out travel reservation information to part of our guest list. We knew that choosing St. Lucia wasn’t the cheapest option for everyone, but it was our perfect spot so we went with it. Above is a picture, it’s a really unique spot because it’s set on the side of a huge hill. This setup gave every room an incredible view.
It seemed like we had everything well on its way to being setup, until we heard back from our guests. Let’s just say they weren’t too enthusiastic. We did a quick information survey of our guests and here’s what we were dealing with:
-15 to 20 guests would go if it was in St. Lucia
- 40 to 50 guests would go if it were in a cheaper location
After much thought and discussion between my fiancé and I we decided that we would move to a cheaper destination. Instead of viewing this as abandoning our perfect dream location, we chose to view it as a chance to have more of our closest friends and family join the party, and it saved us money so we could take a really over-the-top honeymoon (which I will get into in a later post…it was incredible). So next post I will tell you about the destination/resort we chose as we moved along in our planning.
