Are You Calling Me a Gossiper?

Xoxo Gone are the days of junior high sleepovers, where gossiping was the main event. Gone are the days of slipping gossip filled notes in your best friend's locker in high school. Gone are the days of passing notes to your friends in chemistry class about the boy sitting at the station next to you. So how do we 20 and 30 - somethings relive these frivolous times? My aha moment is, Bridal Showers! Yes, these showers represent fun times when it is still ok to gossip about your fiance (aka boyfriend) and his friends (because they are not married to your friends yet). So if you combine gossip and shower, you get a Gossip Girl inspired Bridal Shower. Genius!

How do you throw a Gossip Girl inspired Bridal Shower:

1. Find a friend who is getting married (this is key) 2. Recreate the Upper East Side. Find an ultra posh restaurant. 3. Give out trendy party favors like mini gems teaholders. Because any party favor you give out should have some bling. 4. Find chic and stylish invitations that are fru fru. 5. Select food and drink items like: mimosas, caviar, salmon mousse on endive, edamame encrusted tuna, and petite fours. 6. There are plenty of generic games to play at lunch, but why not be different? Have a fashion guru come to talk to the group, either a stylist or designer. 7. spend the rest of the afternoon shopping or window shopping at the trendiest boutiques in town 8. Gossip, gossip and more gossip.

For fabulous fashion to wear at this shindig check out the fashions of: BetseyJohnson.com, Nordstrom.com and AlexanderMcqueen.com

For fabulous invitations to send for this shindig check out: Stiletto Night, The Pink Dress, and Mingle or any bridal shower or fashion infused invitation.

No matter how old you are, you are never too old to have a great bridal shower, getting back to the basics: food, presents, shopping and gossip.

Break Free From Business Cards!

Calling_card_collage Gone are the days of chicken scribble on the back of a business card from your beau or beaut! In are the days of the magnificent calling card. Not only does a calling card give you a chance to give that certain someone your digits, but it also allows more personality than your 'Dewey Cheatem and How' law firm business card.

Have you Seen this Guy Lately?

Estes Chances are, if you received a photo of this guy in your mailbox, your husband may question it, but your day would be made. So why not brighten the day and holiday of your friends and family by sending them holiday cards with your family's photo. The holidays are around the corner and it is time to start thinking about holiday cards. This season, go photo!

3 Do's and Dont's for choosing your photo holiday cards

Do:
1. Use a vacation photo
represents scenery & part of your past year

2. Use a unique photo
mowing the lawn, painting the house or sweeping leaves

3. Change the coloring of your photo
to black and white with a touch of aqua or sepia tone with a touch of burgundy

Don't:
1. Use a photo studio shot
boring & overdone

2. Use a photo of a baby in a diaper
just not modest

3. Use a cheesy photo
overposed, completely goofy or misrepresenting your style

Although Rob Estes won't be on everyone's photo holiday card, this season your face can be!

Buzzwords combined: ECO-nomical

Thepriceisright_8 It seems I can't turn a corner these days with out being reminded of two things, economic plan and eco-friendly. Sound exciting? On the radio this morning I heard people from all over calling in and sharing thier personal stories of how they have been taking control of thier own personal situations financially. It was amazing how we Americans can turn things around with a two trick pony at the drop of a dime. I would like to flip these words together and swish them around to create a new buzzword. ECO-nomical. We can can change our situations one recycled and cost efficient invitation at a time (and love every minute of it). It's the American way! We offer recycled wedding invitations from $100 to $150 for 100, and $150 to $199.

Invitations from top to bottom; Natually Expressed Leaves, and  A natural Classic, Naturally Expressed Pinecone

I’m Dreaming of a Green Christmas

Let_it_grow_collage With the green revolution taking over pop culture by storm (it’s about time), we have seen many things as of late that are becoming eco-friendly. This is becoming so popular that even older generations are starting to get hip with it, which is something I never thought I would see.

One of the latest green items that I find fantastic is recycled and compost-friendly paper plates and eating utensils. These items were previously so wasteful that it is rad there is finally a way to avoid their potential harm to the earth.

In the spirit of the season, and the enlightenment of the ages, we have added many new green holiday cards to our site. These are wonderful way to spread holiday cheer to your loved ones, but to also be conscious of your environment.

I asked around here at IC to find out favorite Green Holiday Cards, and to see what others are doing around the Holidays to help conserve…this is what I found:

Ashley: Global Hearts

Bag Lady: I actually have just purchased and received cloth shopping bags made from Hemp. I use them for my grocery shopping, and shall use them for all of my holiday shopping as well! I found them at www.reusablebags.com ; they won “green business of the year” and donate 1% of every sale to the environment.

Dawn: Mosiac Ornament

Pattie McPlanner: I am making a New Year’s resolution to make the switch to more earth-friendly products

Zahara: Bright Holidays

Smart Shopper: Purchase certified organic foods and products.

Jessica: Chip the Snowman

The Fake Out: I will be getting a fake tree this year, so that I can reuse it for years to come, and also so that way I do not have to cut down a real tree.

Olivier: Be Ever Green

Man-Bag: Shopping at Publix with recycled bags

As for me, my favorite Green Holiday Card is Penguin Environment. This holiday season I am saving my fuel and staying home (instead of visiting family, unfortunately). I am also going to limit the amount of Christmas lights I use, and reuse wrapping paper as often as possible (even if it means opening presents with the excrutiating slowness of my mother). Happy Holidays!

This is the Way I Roll

Bowling Are you looking for a new party idea? Try bowling. Gone are the days of dark wood 70's style bowling alleys. Here are the days of late night techno bowling and neon lights. Bowling is not only fun for kids, but adults too. In fact, we do a teambuilding event once a year for our office at a local bowling alley. Bowling is cool again. Don't forget your socks!

Tangent Thursday

Fortuneteller_3 I'm off (on another tangent that is)! Sweet beautiful tangents. I think they make the world go round and they are always welcome in my world. For anyone who watches Top Design on Bravo, can I share a couple of brilliant one liners? last night, Kelly Wearstler asked one of the design contestants for a set of "Cliff Notes" with his window display! Ouch (but the design really was awful)! Then Jonathan Adler had said something so simple yet inspirational. As I grasped for my journal to document the brilliance, I remember it being something along these lines. "It's okay to make something look great first and then inject narrative quietly." May I just say Wow! Okay I digress, My point is that little tangents are often overlooked opportunities for amazing design. One of my coworkers had asked me to help her on a side project for her wedding. A little detail to let guests know how it all went down. How they met? Where the first date was? etc. Isn't this the stuff people are dying to know. I'm sure your immediate family already knows but what about the less informed that don't have context from which to relate. I bring you Katrina's paper fortune teller! It was designed to match her mocha pocket invitation font and color and I believe it is one of these narrative details of which Mr. Adler speaks of. It is small and will be just a detail on the tablescape however it will help guests emotionally relate to the bride and groom for a more memorable experience!

P.S. Jonathan Adler is getting hitched today! Congratulations to you both!

What's in a name?

Namebaby_2 Okay, dear blog readers, I am going to reveal a huge secret: my true identity. Despite the fact that the little tag down there says my name is 'Reilly' it really isn't. Reilly is my maiden name, adopted as a nickname in high school and carried through all the way here to IC. Why? Because I was made in the 80's when baby girls were names Jennifer, Jessica, Jamie or some variation. My name is Jennifer, and while I love it, I have had to deal with the multiple Jen dilemma my whole life. In 4th grade, you could say the name Jen in a classroom and 6 of my classmates would reply. This is part of my explanation of why celebrities name their children very unique names. Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale have a son named Kingston, Courtney Cox & David Arquette named their little girl Coco Riley, and even the vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has a son named Trigg. The most unique of all celebrity baby names comes from Frank Zappa who named his offspring Moon Unit, Dweezil, Diva Muffin, and Ahmed Emuukha.

Most of my colleagues here at IC have more traditional tastes. I asked a few what their favorite names are:

Jennifer (not me, the other Jen here): I like Ella Grace for a girl because the name is just beautiful and very feminine.  I like Logan Robert because it sounds like a strong name and combines a name that I love (Logan) with a name that honors my husband’s grandfather (Robert).

Shawn: For a boy, I would go with Liam James.  They are both strong Irish names and seem to go well together. For a girl, I would pick Leigh Ann.  Leigh is Jami’s [his wife's] middle name and I’ve always liked how that sounds together.I also like the name Soda and Seven.

Kyle: Bob (not “Bobby”) the Baby – Because I like babies that have a real adult like names. Jack is good one. I’m also a fan of older names like Felix, Hubert, Ethel or Eleanor.

Maybe Bob the Baby and Soda would get along.

Personally, my favorite names are Jack Preston, Sophia Grace, Audrey Kelly, and Charlie Vedder [yes, Vedder for Eddie Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam]. A few light years away when I am ready to have some chillins' I plan on splattering their name across all of their belongings. They are going to have personalized back packs, have it written on their socks, their own children's stationery, calling cards with their names on it, personalized pencils, and maybe even it written on their bedroom wall. Their birth announcements will definitely feature their name or initial in huuuge letters.

So, now the cat's out of the bag. My name is Jen. What's your name and where did it come from?

Damask, Paisley and Repeated Patterns Oh My!

Pattern_collage_2 I have noticed quite the trend of a little modern mixed with a little traditional that has become a unique little hybrid all on its own. Damask and paisley are coming back with a force that is to be reckoned with (or did they ever really leave us?).

What is damask you say? Damask is a woven pattern generally made out of silk, cotton, wool, linen or synthetic fibers. First produced in China, India, Persia and Syria; they would often feature flowers, fruit, animals and of course ornamentals designs. Today we have taken Damask and created a whole new strain with bright colors and bold designs.

As long as we are going into a history lesson…Paisley (a design shaped like a comma or kidney) also has Persian roots, but was named after the town Paisley in central Scotland. However, its “high profile” iconic use was introduced during the late 60s. John Lennon even had his Rolls Royce adorned with paisley.

I feel like these items are so unique, because they can be created in so many different ways that most everyone can find a damask or paisley design that suits them. For instance black damask with bright colors can give a very girly-urban look, while brown damask with an animal print like the featured invitation Patterned Tile can give a very earthy feel.

Either way, both of these designs have been around for centuries, and they are not going out of style anytime soon...but feel free to check back in 100 years!
